The Owatonna RC Modelers have received an FAA waiver for requirements mandating transponders on our flying equipment. The waiver allows any aircraft flying at the field to not be required to carry electronic equipment that sends the location of your equipment when airborne. The waiver is for a 400 foot ceiling limit unless requested to go higher for an event and allows for a flight perimeter of roughly 500 feet from the center of the field in all directions. If you fly at other fields you will need to see if they have a FRIA in place or you will be required to carry a transponder on your equipment. The transponders are going to be required by the FAA effective on September 16th 2023 for all non FRIA waivered airfields. This is a great benefit for the club to keep the expenses down for the hobby and our members.
